Hello, I’m Hattie and I’m the maker behind Hattie Wragg jewellery
My jewellery all starts as one of these organic shapes of silver which I make by melting recycled silver and letting it flow between charcoal surfaces. I love how the shapes look like pieces of nature and how the finished jewellery can be quite dramatic but restful at the same time – like stepping out of our four walls and spending time amongst the trees.
I use recycled silver
so I see it as a kind of rewilding process, from its previous functional role in electronics or traditional jewellery, into something that follows the slow shapes of lichen or coastlines. The process of designing is like putting together beautiful pebbles or leaves.
Soon after I founded Queen’s Wood Studio in 2014, I realised I could make jewellery in a sustainable way. The silver could be 100% recycled, the stones vintage and antique rather than new-mined, the processes using kitchen cupboard ingredients instead of toxic chemicals, and the packaging recycled too. I love this way of working with what I can find, designing my jewellery like a collage artist. Every piece I make is truly one of a kind.
